Since the official declaration of financial crisis, it seems like everyone is reorganizing, restructuring, and repricing. This is no different for the hosted PBX market. So I put together a brand new price comparison chart, now that it looks like things have settled down enough that no new surprises will be just around the corner.

The short answer? There’s hardly any difference, so choose by features and service quality. Most of the companies have priced themselves competitively into costs similar to each other for most purposes. This is good for you, because that means you can get the highest quality for only a few extra dollars, or sometimes at a cost beneath their ‘low-price’ competitors. To take a quick glance, here are some quick charts, broken up by company size, and some warnings lest you judge too soon, and then a few words about what this means you should use for your business.

What’s the best choice, you ask?

Most companies should use Virtual PBX, and fall back to Onebox or VoiceNation. It would be nice if I could recommend different companies for different users – you could pick the answer that works best for your needs, because each company takes a different approach. I can’t. Here’s why:

Months ago when I put this website together, I did a value-based recommendation. Judging by cost and comparing that against quality and features, I put together a list of what providers suit what size of business. Different providers ranked in different places, with some choices being the cheapest, some providing the most features, some being best general value, and so on. Since then, about half the providers slashed prices following the economic downturn. The simple fact is that when business was still booming and recession was a distant cloud on the horizon, VirtualPBX was shining through the slightly more pricey and much more sophisticated options. When the industry restructured over the last weeks, they’re now almost the same price as everyone else – but their superior quality hasn’t changed at all. They’re also probably the most financially secure (from what I can tell, at least) – which means your phone service won’t break down in the middle of a month if you sign up with them.  That said, you can still sometimes get a few more minutes to the dollar from Onebox, and VoiceNation has a decent service at a decent price.

Hosted PBX Consultant (free services)

We have taken the consultant approach. We have people here that have been in this industry since the begining. Some of them used to work for these providers.

We decided to represent most of the carriers here and a number of others. We did this becuase not any one solution fits everybody. We evaluate the needs of the business and make recomendations based off our findings. Typically a business will pay a consultant 10% of the purchase price for this expertise. Becuase we represent so many of them our services are free to the customer as the carrier pays us.

Additionally, perhaps you are considering a Hosted solution versus a Premised based solution like say a Fonality. We provide you with all of the knowledge you need to help you make the RIGHT decision.

The price to go thruogh a resller or direct is the same so customers can choose to work directly or through a consultant like us. We will get you all of the proposals, break them down and give you our insigght to their services from an outsiders view. When you have support issues we can escalate them quicker becuase we have a number of customers through each carrier which carries more weight with them.

So far it has been a very effective way to providing top notch consultanting services to customers without charging them.

If you are looking at a Hosted PBX, SIP Trunking, MPLS networks, High Speed Data Services or even a premised based solution feel free to get in touch with us to see if we may be able to help you.

Sincerely,

Lots of Hosted PBX providers to choose from

There seems to be a lot of hosted pbx providers to choose from. Its sort of daunting trying to decide who to use. I mostly used the ratings on various websites to make my choice and ended up going with Easy Office Phone www.easyofficephone.com back in April. So far so good.

Hi!
You write that onebox has no cheaper solution than the one for $49,-
How about the onebox Executive plan? It's only $16,95 a month.
Did you rule it out for some reason?

I'm currently looking for a hosted PBX system and found your site quite helpful. But when I looked at the onebox site, that service came up and I was wondering why you didn't mention it here.
